Is Endfield before or after Arknights?Arknights: Lore Explained

Ready to dive into Arknights: Endfield? You’ll play as the Endministrator leading Endfield Industries. Talos-II, Terra’s storm-battered moon colonized 152 years ago through a broken Æthergate. Arknights: Endfield is it’s own standalone story, but knowing the Arknights Lore makes your survival adventures even more epic.

Massive Catastrophes drop Originium crystals, which power Arts (magic-like abilities) but infect people with deadly Oripathy. Terra’s diverse inhabitants are called Terrans. They are the Ancients, the Sarkaz, the draconic Elders and many more like the Feranmut the Seaborn, etc.

Battles echo with lasting consequences! Characters bear visible and invisible scars! Your choices ripple across Terra’s fate!

The Story of Arknights

The World of Arknights takes place on Terra, a harsh dystopian world that feels like a far less forgiving version of our own Earth. With similar gravity, atmosphere, and carbon-based life, but constantly battered by massive natural disasters known as Catastrophes.

These apocalyptic events are continent-wrecking storms, meteor showers, or devastating earthquakes, etc. They have forced most civilizations to live in enormous nomadic cities that race across the landscape to outrun the destruction.

In the aftermath, these Catastrophes often leave behind deposits of Originium.

This a powerful crystalline mineral that drives the world’s technology and Arts (essentially magic).

As the player, you take on the role of the Doctor, an amnesiac tactical genius. You lead the Rhodes Island—a humanitarian organization. Your core mission is to search for a cure for those afflicted by the terminal, disease Oripathy.

Under the guidance of Amiya and the enigmatic Kal’tsit, combat the radical Reunion Movement, and hostile governments across Terra.

At its core, Arknights’ lore is a rich tapestry of tragedy, unyielding resilience, and shades of moral gray.

Why Does The Arknights Lore Matter?

What sets Arknights apart is how tightly its gameplay weaves into its gripping narrative. Every operator you deploy carries a deeply personal backstory rooted in Terra’s brutal struggles.

The events often echo real-world crises like outbreaks, social inequality, and ecological devastation.

This lore infuses every tower-defense match with raw urgency. You’re not just holding the line, you’re battling for survival in a world teetering on the brink of collapse.

It pushes players to grapple with tough questions about morality, governance, and the true price of progress. It turns casual play into profound reflection.

It’s this tangled web of clashing loyalties, ideologies, and self-preservation that makes Terra’s story so addictive.

Your Role in Arknights: Leading Rhodes Island into Battle

Rhodes Island: The Heroic Beacon on Wheels, your faction. A colossal landship, a self-sustaining nomadic city rumbling across Terra’s ravaged landscapes. This is the headquarters of Rhodes Island Pharmaceuticals Inc. (RI), a revolutionary organization blending cutting-edge medicine with a private military force.

Born from the secretive ashes of the legendary Babel organization, RI is a mobile sanctuary for the persecuted Infected. Those afflicted by Oripathy are shunned by society and hunted by nations.

Rhodes Island, Their Noble (and Perilous) Mission

Cure the Incurable: Relentless research into Oripathy and Originium.

Protect the Vulnerable: Offering treatment and refuge to the Infected.

Fight Back: Deploying elite Operators for humanitarian operations and bold interventions where the world powers fall short.

You Are the Doctor: The Masked Mastermind

As the player, you’ll step into the shoes of the enigmatic Doctor.

The Doctor is this story’s amnesiac protagonist.

You will steer this nomadic powerhouse through chaos.

Your tactical genius is about to change everything!

You’re a strategic prodigy, orchestrating tower-defense battles where you deploy Operators to hold the line against waves of enemies.

Revived from cryogenic sleep with your memories shattered, you awaken in a mask, your past a tantalizing enigma that unfolds across the narrative.

Analyze threats in real-time. Position and synergize Operators’ unique abilities. Turn the tide in grueling, grid-based skirmishes.

The Doctor isn’t just a leader—you’re the glue holding RI together, earning loyalty through sheer brilliance.

No faction thrives without its icons. Here’s who’ll have your back:

Amiya: The heart and co-leader of RI. This adorable Cautus (rabbit-eared) girl packs an immense, otherworldly power in her Originium Arts. Sweet, determined, and fiercely protective of the Infected, she’s your emotional anchor—and a devastating caster on the battlefield.

Kal’tsit: The pragmatic powerhouse. A veteran doctor and long-time RI leader, she’s brilliant, aloof, and knows far too much about your forgotten past. Her mysterious feline companion adds to the intrigue. Don’t cross her—she’s the voice of cold reason in a heated world.

The Story Of The Reunion Movement

Reunion stands as one of the game’s most compelling antagonists, especially in the early chapters. Reunion is a militant resistance group of radicalized Infected drawn from oppressed communities across Terra’s nomadic cities.

In the dystopian world of Arknights, where the deadly Oripathy infection—caused by exposure to the resource Origium—marks individuals as “Infected” and subjects them to widespread discrimination, isolation, and oppression, few factions embody the raw desperation of the marginalized like The Reunion Movement.

In Terra, the Infected face systemic prejudice: quarantines, forced labor, pogroms, and social exile. Many nomadic cities treat them as second-class citizens or worse. What began as a grassroots effort to protect and shelter the Infected quickly radicalized under charismatic leaders like Talulah, who allied with powerful figures such as Patriot and his guerrillas, and FrostNova’s Yeti Squadron.

Talulah the Fighter (AI Enhanced)

Their core ideology mirrors the world’s cruelty back at it: the existing societal structures are irredeemably oppressive, and true freedom for the Infected can only come by tearing down the old order and building something new.

In contrast to Rhodes Island, which focuses on medical research, diplomacy, and peaceful advocacy, Reunion, on the other hand, chooses a path of aggression. Consequently, it resorts to force by attacking cities, sabotaging infrastructure, and waging guerrilla warfare.

Many members have lost families to pogroms, endured experimentation, or watched loved ones crystallize from advanced Oripathy. Initial acts of self-defense spiral into vengeance under leaders grappling with their own pain, turning Reunion into a symbol of both hope for the desperate and terror for the uninfected.

The Reunion Movement takes center stage as the primary antagonists in Arknights’ early main story arcs. The first major conflict revolves around Rhodes Island’s frantic efforts to counter Reunion’s aggressive campaigns against key nomadic cities.

The crisis ignites in Chernobog, an Ursus-controlled city notorious for its brutal treatment of the Infected. Reunion’s infiltration and assault—amid an impending Catastrophe—lead to the city’s devastating fall, marking a bold declaration of war against oppression.

The Great Powers of Terra: Pillars of Power in Arknights’ World

In the dystopian world of Arknights, the political landscape of Terra is dominated by massive nomadic cities and powerful nation-states. These “Great Powers” shape global events, control vast resources, and often dictate the fate of the Infected—those afflicted by Oripathy.

Many of these nations operate or influence nomadic cities, massive mobile platforms that traverse the harsh, Catastrophe-ravaged terrain.

At the heart of Terra’s tensions is the widespread oppression of the Infected. The established powers—nations like Ursus, Victoria, and others—typically view Oripathy as a threat to be contained, quarantined, or eradicated.

The widespread hate against the Sarkaz and the Infected, underscores how fear and discrimination remain the bedrock of this world’s social order.

Victoria

Drawing from Victorian-era Britain, Victoria is a hegemonic industrial powerhouse with a constitutional monarchy shared between Draco and Aslan royal lines.

Its aristocratic society, booming industry, and complex succession intrigues drive much of the recent storyline drama, including civil unrest and power struggles in cities like Londinium.

Yan

Modeled after Imperial China, Yan is an ancient, culturally rich empire with profound traditions and decentralized governance through powerful regional leaders. Among the Great Powers, it’s often seen as the most stable, with a massive population and resilient economy.

Cities like Lungmen—a highly autonomous nomadic city governed by Wei Yenwu—serve as Yan’s forward outposts, blending tradition with modern commerce and diplomacy.

Lungmen itself exemplifies the nomadic city model: a bustling, mobile metropolis that’s progressive yet pragmatic in its dealings with the Infected and neighboring powers like Ursus.

The Races Of Arknights

Terra, is populated by numerous humanoid races that are collectively referred to as Terrans.

The Operators, enemies, and civilians of Terra belong to an astonishing array of races, each characterized by physical traits derived from various animals, mythological creatures, or unique evolutionary paths.

Unlike a world of just “humans” and “elves,” Arknights’ races are a complex web of anthropomorphic forms often classified into three broad categories: Teekaz, Ancients, and Elders.

1. The Teekaz (The Ancient Inhabitants)

This group represents the original or most ancient sentient life forms on Terra, primarily associated with the fallen nomadic city-state of Kazdel.

Sarkaz

The most widespread and persecuted race on Terra. They have distinct features like horns, tails, and dark skin. They are often depicted as having higher physical strength and endurance but are particularly vulnerable to Oripathy. The Sarkaz are a diaspora whose history is marked by endless war and mercenary work (e.g., Amiya, W, Mudrock).

Sankta

Characterized by a single halo and sometimes wings. They are predominantly found in Laterano and are strongly associated with its unique legal and technological system known as “The Law.” They have a close, complex historical link to the Sarkaz (e.g., Exusiai, Mostima).

Durin

A subterranean-dwelling race known for their short stature and relaxed, often lazy, demeanor (e.g., Durin, Myrtle). The Durins are an offshoot race of the Teekaz, who were the original, native inhabitants of the entire planet Terra.

The Migration: During an ancient conflict called the “Descending War,” a Teekaz leader named Duq’hraqaam led his tribe deep underground, defying the warnings of the first Sarkaz King.

Learning the origins and cultural nuances of each race is essential for deciphering the political intrigue and deep-seated prejudices that propel Terra’s conflicts.

2. The Ancients (The Dominant Civilizations)

The Ancients are an umbrella term for the vast majority of Terran races that make up the current, dominant nomadic city-states. Most of these races are distinctly humanoid with animal features (known as ‘kemonomimi’ or anthropomorphic traits).

Lupo (Wolves)

Often associated with ferocity and strong social structures. Key figures are central to Rhodes Island’s and former Babel’s history. (e.g., Lappland, Texas, Red)
